NEW YORK LEAGUE OF CONSERVATION VOTERS ENDORSE PADAVAN FOR RE-ELECTION
Publication Date: 7/25/2008
The New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV) has endorsed state Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) for the upcoming 2008 election. The NYLCV cited Padavan as strong advocate on behalf of the environment.
"I am honored and proud to have the endorsement of the New York League of Conservation Voters," Padavan said. "Working side-by-side with the NYLCV we have made great strides in the state Legislature by adopting legislation that will help lead to a cleaner and greener New York. I look forward to continuing to work with the NYLCV in the future by protecting New York’s natural resources and environment."
The NYLCV endorsement follows the Environmental Advocates of New York, a statewide environmental advocacy group, recognition of Padavan as a legislative leader for his support and advocacy of key environmental legislation during the 2008 State Legislative Session.
Throughout his service in the state Senate, Senator Padavan has been a leader in local environmental and preservation action. Padavan was the driving force in establishing and improving the Alley Pond Environment Center. Padavan also established the Northeast Queens Nature and Historic Preservation Commission, a citizen’s panel charged with helping to protect the Northeast Queens shoreline.
Additionally, Padavan has delivered state grant funding and has worked with the Udall’s Cove Preservation Committee to preserve the treasured wetlands of Udall’s Cove. Padavan’s local environmental leadership is also illustrated each spring when he works with local civic organizations and associations during spring-time park clean-ups.
Padavan is the author of the ’Lawn Litter Law’ which will allow homeowners throughout New York City to place a sign on their property to ward off unwanted literature, flyers and advertisements unscrupulously left on their property. As a result this new law will protect our environment by greatly reducing the litter throughout the streets of New York City.
In 2008, Senator Frank Padavan secured the legislative passage of a property tax abatement for solar generating systems in New York City. Padavan also voted in support of record investments for the Environmental Protection Fund, Brownfield program reforms, and legislation focused on alternative and renewable energy. Senator Padavan is a strong supporter and advocate of the Wetlands Protection Act, the Bigger Better Bottle Bill, and the Global Warming Pollution Cap.
